Origin & Legacy
The Dual-Origin Theory
The roots of Green Park Stadium date back to the 1940s, during the pre-independence era. The origin of the stadium's name is steeped in fascinating local lore, primarily revolving around two distinct theories:
Theory 1: Madam Green
The most popular belief is that the stadium was named after a British lady named Madam Green, who frequently used to go horseback riding on these expansive grounds.
Theory 2: The Governor
Others attribute the name to Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, the Governor of the United Provinces, who was affectionately nicknamed "Madam Green" by locals due to his iconic green car.
